Imagine my surprise and delight!

As Laura Says, it all started over coffee. We were way overdue for a catch-up time. I had moved away from the Holy City in 2009 following a wonderful dream. When that dream ended, as dreams sometimes do, I put my furniture in storage, loaded my cat, my computer, and my clothes into my car and drove from Minnesota to Southern California for a little R & R interlude. A new dream was already beginning, this one a business dream, and only a few shorts weeks later it was suddenly time to come home. Immediately. There was no time for a road trip. So I loaded my cat, my computer and my clothes on a plane and hurried back to Charleston. The road trip would come soon.

As Laura and I caught up over yummy Muddy Waters coffee, the dream of a road trip filled with photos and sightseeing and a visit with one of my dearest friends in all the universe began to unfold and before either of us knew it, she and her camera had signed on for the ride!

So here we are at the beginning of our journey. It has already been a time of laughter, healing, learning, art, exquisite food, huge blue jays watching us beady-eyed from Joy's patio, and hummingbirds dive-bombing us as we exuberantly dabble with painting the wild flowers, each of us somehow showcasing our own personal style. Laura is teaching us the finer points of blogging and photography. Diane has given us lovely lessons in watercolor and the art of seeing. Joy (She'll always be Joyce to me as in Re-Joyce) has composed music for the occasion, fed us creatively, and surrounded us with the warmth of her hospitality. There has been wine involved. And champagne. And tears. And night bubbling. And laughter. So much laughter.

Today, Laura and I officially begin our drive. We hope to see Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and Santa Fe. We'll travel along the old Route 66. And mostly, we'll go where the spirit leads. As Laura says - One country, two crazy southern women, eight states (which eight, we are not entirely sure) over ten days. Wine and Nutella are requirements, knowing where we are going is not.

Come ride along!
